AT&T Film Awards 2020

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

The AT&T Film Awards recognizes aspiring creators who are shaping the future of entertainment through innovative and immersive filmmaking while sharing their unique stories. We are supporting and rewarding excellence in filmmaking with $60,000 in cash and prizes. The 7th edition of the AT&T Film Awards is shining the light on emerging creators from across the U.S. - with categories for XR (MR/VR/AR), Mobile, Drone, Spanish-language and Youth.

Submissions will be accepted through April 30, 2020 for most categories (the Spanish-language films are due December 16, 2019 and the Youth category entries are due January 24, 2020). There is no cost to enter, but you must be a legal U.S. resident. The maximum film length for all categories is 10 minutes.

BEST SHORT FILM: MERGED OR AUGMENTED REALITY

Awarded to the top short film shot incorporating mixed or augmented reality.  

Grand Prize Winner — $10,000 USD

Two Official Selections — $2,500 USD each

BEST SHORT FILM: VIRTUAL REALITY

Awarded to the top short film incorporating virtual reality.

Winner — $10,000 USD

BEST SHORT FILM: MOBILE/360/DRONE

Awarded to the top short films shot incorporating one or more of the following technologies:

  • Mobile (smartphone or tablet)
  • 360
  • Drone

The Youth Film Concept finalists will be announced within the coming weeks. Thank you to all who submitted concepts to the category.

BEST YOUTH FILM CONCEPT

Awarded to the top film concepts by youth filmmakers age 13-18. Five winners will be selected to receive an ​all-expenses-paid trip for themselves and a chaperone to the opening weekend of the Tribeca Film Festival with nonprofit Fresh Films, where youth will receive hands-on filmmaking training and mentoring, learn about AR/VR content​, and will work together with Fresh Films to create a short piece of mobile-filmed content about the experience. 

To enter, submit a film concept of up to 500 words for a video on one of the three below themes: 

  1. Protecting the environment
  2. Using Positivity and kindness to stop bullying
  3. Distracted driving

Five Grand Prize Winners — Five winners will receive a prize package with AT&T and Fresh Films to attend the first weekend of Tribeca Film Festival. On this all-expenses-paid trip, winners will receive exposure to AR and VR content, and will receive training from Fresh Films as they work together to create content about their Tribeca experience through the lens of the importance of opportunities related to AR and VR content.

BEST SHORT FILM: SPANISH-LANGUAGE

Awarded to the top Spanish-language short film from current undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, or postdoctoral students enrolled in an accredited college or university. The majority of the film must be in Spanish.

Grand Prize Winner — Prize package valued at $15,000 to attend the summer 2020 filmmaking program at USC Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles. Includes tuition, roundtrip airfare, housing, and a daily stipend. They will also be a Grand Prize participant in the FACUINI Festival. The winning film will air on DIRECTV in Latin America and the winner will receive a meeting with a CAA agent.

Underrepresented Filmmaker Prize

Only available for filmmakers submitting to the Merged/Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, or Mobile/360/Drone categories. While submitting to one of the aforementioned categories, you will be prompted to check a box indicating whether or not you are an underrepresented filmmaker and would like to be considered for this additional prize. This category does not have its own individual form. 

Awarded to a filmmaker from a traditionally underrepresented background. Creators that are eligible to opt in to the Underrepresented Filmmaker Prize include people with disabilities, LGBTQ people, women, and people of color.

Winner — $5,000 USD

CONTEST REQUIREMENTS

  • There is no fee to enter.
  • Contest is open to entrants who are legal residents of the United States.
  • Submissions will be accepted through December 16, 2019, at 11:59 pm EST for the Spanish-language category; January 24, 2020, at 11:59 pm EST for the Youth category; All other submissions will be accepted through April 30, 2020, at 11:59 pm EST.
  • Eligibility Requirements: Entrants must be at least 13 years of age at the time of submission. See Official Rules for a complete list of eligibility requirements.
  • Submitted films must have been completed after January 1, 2018, to be eligible.
  • Only original works are accepted. Submitting parties must hold complete ownership and rights of submitted product.
  • All awarded prizes will be provided to the individual, eligible submitter.
  • Film or project length maximum: 10 minutes.
  • Supported video filetypes for short films: .mp4 or .mov.
  • We require that all VR/MR/AR projects must include a link to a secure, 360 online version of your project or 2D play-through via an external site (e.g. your website, YouTube 360, Vimeo, etc.)
